Good Friday

When we really consider the magnitude of the events of the day we now call Good Friday it is at the same time both shocking and humbling.

Shocking because Jesus was innocent. The Jewish leaders could only condemn Him knowing it was on the testimony of men they had encouraged to witness falsely against Him. Herod had found no fault, Pilate declared that there was nothing in Him deserving of death. Pilate's wife had been warned in a dream to have nothing to do with this innocent man. The testimony of both God and man declared Jesus to be completely without fault. He was the perfect, innocent lamb.

Shocking because we are the ones who deserved to suffer what Jesus willingly suffered.

And yet that is what He chose.

Humbling because as we look at the cross and as we honestly look at who would be without Christ we have to recognise that this was the only way that our sin could ever be removed and forgiven. We were utterly powerless to help ourselves.

What love, what Grace, what mercy as the innocent one refused to back out from fulfilling the plan of salvation that would cost Him so dearly.

All we can do is Behold the Lamb.

All we can do is wonder at the majesty of the greatest humility the universe will ever know.

All we can do is allow ourselves to be moved to worship and adore Him, love pouring from our grateful hearts.

So thank Him today, praise Him today and honour Him today.

Hallelujah.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive glory, honour and praise.

Amen
