Good Friday

Today is the day when God turned the world upside down.

The day that, in the wisdom and judgement of man made no sense.

When the One whom angels worship, God's beloved Son in whom God was well pleased, reduced Himself to nothing as the Father made Him who had no sin to become sin for us.

The day when the Light of the world hung between Heaven and earth as thick darkness covered everything.

When the One in whom is life gave Himself over to death.

When the One who will judge all things placed Himself in the place of judgement, shame and humiliation.

When He who cast the devil out of Heaven allowed the hour when darkness reigned.

The day when the devil thought he had won.

How could God the Holy, the just, the true allow such a thing?

Because it was the only way.

If there had been any other way the Father would have taken the cup away as His Son cried in anguish in the horror of Gethsemane's garden.

If there had been any other way, the Son would have been spared it all.

But today is the day when God turned everything upside down.

When the obedience of Jesus overturned our rebellion against the Father.

When the love of God overturned our enmity with our Creator.

When the

destiny of Hell was replaced with the promise of Heaven to all who will believe.

This is love.

This is mercy.

This is the day when the Author of life was placed in a tomb.

When all seemed lost.

But God turned everything upside down.

This was not defeat. It was victory.

It was just that the world didn't see it that way.

At least, not for three days yet.
