The Pope's Funeral

Watching the funeral of Pope Francis today it was hard not to be overwhelmed by the scale, the ceremony, the robes, the sheer numbers physically in attendance as well as the millions watching around the globe.

Presidents, royalty, leading men and women of state in attendance.

What a contrast to the death and burial of our beautiful Saviour, Jesus.

His body, torn, beaten, bruised, taken down from a wooden cross and placed in a borrowed tomb, without even the time for Him to be anointed with the burial spices.

No choirs sang, no monarchs bowed their heads, no great spectacle took place.

This was our Lord, who humbled Himself in every way; who was willing and obedient even to the death of the cross.

Who made Himself nothing, even in His death.

All so that we could lifted up, raised with Him into glorious life.

What a Saviour.

What great salvation.

The servant of all has now been exalted to the highest place.

Every monarch, every president, every man and woman of state, every Cardinal, every priest, anyone of authority and influence in this world will one day have to bow to His name, the name above all names.

Let us follow His example and walk in love, grace and humility.

For in following Him, there is forever the promise of glory in His presence.

Hallelujah!
