Do you know Jesus?
Before you go any further we have one question:
Where will you spend eternity? Do you have peace in your heart, knowing that if you were to die today you would spend eternity with God in heaven?
If the answer is “no, but I need to”, the Bible says this: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
(Romans 10:9, NKJV)
But saved from what? From sin, from Hell, from the power of the devil. The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) and that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23, NKJV). Not just dying physically, but death spiritually, an eternal separation from God.
But God loves us. He provided a way of rescue through Jesus. When Jesus died on the cross the Son of God Himself took all the punishment that our sins deserve. The Holy One died in the place of the unholy ones. But then He rose from the dead on the third day. Death could not hold Him because He had broken the power of sin on our behalf.
It is only through Jesus that we can be saved. He declared, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No-one can come to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NKJV) Only Jesus died for your sins, only Jesus took the punishment we deserve; only Jesus is risen from the dead, and only Jesus gives us new life and restores our relationship with God.
And today He offers you eternal life as a free gift for all who will accept it. If this is what you want, and if you mean it with all your heart, that you want to be free from the power of sin and start again, then you can pray this simple prayer. God will hear you. He will answer your prayer and save you. He will fill you with His own Spirit to empower you to live life as a Son of God on the earth. Pray it out loud.
“Lord Jesus, thank you that you died for me. I believe with all my heart that you are the Son of God. I thank you that you died on the cross for my sins and you offer me eternal life. I ask you to be the Lord of my life. I receive forgiveness for my sins. I turn away from my old, sinful life to follow you. Thank you for saving me. I am now a Son of God, made right with God through your death and resurrection. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit and enable me to live as you created me to live. I choose to love you and to follow you all the days of my life. I belong to you now, Jesus. I gladly confess that Jesus is my Lord. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.”
